Upgrades are purchasable items that make generators and some other aspects of the game more efficient.

There are tons of upgrades currently in the game, each one having a different effect.

Once you reach the Singularity upgrade your simulation will 'crash', thus restarting your game progress and unlocking the Reality Engine. The Reality Engine will allow you to purchase further upgrades that allow you to progress in the game at a much faster rate. Further progress beyond the Singularity is possible after your first restart, and unlocking the Singularity on subsequent play-throughs will not force you to reset the simulation.
