Editing Mesozoic Valley

[[File:Chrome mjqT7jWmo7.png|thumb|326x326px]]The '''Mesozoic Valley''' is a side simulation featuring the evolutionary history of prehistoric creatures throughout the Mesozoic Era. It primarily includes various species of dinosaur, but also includes some non-dinosaur prehistoric creatures. This expansion explores the evolution of dinosaurs from archosaurs, through their extinction in the Cretaceous-Paleogene Extinction Event, and into their eventual evolution into modern [[Rise of Reptiles|birds]].

This part of the game is represented by mascot [[Archie]] the Archosaur.

== Unlocking ==

A Mysterious Rock appears on the Main Tree once the Flatworm is unlocked. Repeatedly tapping on the Rock 200 times destroys it and unlocks the Mesozoic Valley: a new, separate simulation, in which a separate tech tree can be found. Advancing this second simulation provides speed increases to the main simulation, and eventually unlocks additional [[generators]].

== Game Mechanics ==
The Mesozoic Valley begins with a single dinosaur node, with more species unlocking as you advance in Extinctions. Clicking the screen will generate [[Fossil|Fossil Points]] at the rate of one per click, but they can be gained at a faster rate by clicking the arrow button on top of each dinosaur node in the tree to 'charge' the node. Tapping the dinosaur itself allows you to purchase more copies of the dinosaur, which increases the payout from each charge.

Dinosaurs '''will not''' automatically generate fossils without tapping until you unlock the corresponding [[Trait|Trait Cards]]. These traits automate production of Fossils for each dinosaur, removing the need to tap on the arrow button and increasing the productivity of each dinosaur. Trait Cards are improved and upgraded using [[Mutagen]], a currency gained by purchasing a certain number of dinosaurs, but must first be unlocked by collecting the cards from [[Geode]]s.

At the top of the screen are quests, which give the player goals like «Collect 25 Stegosaurus», «Upgrade 3 Traits», and «Photograph Archosaur». Three quests are displayed at a time, and with each rank more quests are required to be completed to advance to the next level. Once a quest is completed, the player will receive a [[Stone Geode]] containing Mutagen and Trait Cards.

=== Extinction ===
After completing enough quests for each rank of the Mesozoic Valley, you have the option to trigger an Extinction Event (although there will typically be additional quests remaining, which you can optionally complete for extra rewards). When this happens, an asteroid falls from the sky, wiping out your dinosaurs and restarting the valley in a fashion similar to the reboot triggered by the first [[Singularity]]. This allows the player to unlock new dinosaurs. It will also give you a [[Silver Geode]], and increase the valley's Simulation Level by 1. Each additional rank of the Mesozoic Valley will increase the speed of the main simulation with diminishing returns; the speed multiplier is 1 + (rank / 10), so rank 1 gives a 1.1x multiplier, rank 2 gives 1.2x, up to rank 50 giving 6x. Reaching certain ranks will also unlock additional bonus generators for the main sim.

=== Prestige ===
At rank 50, the «Asteroid» button changes to a «Prestige» button, allowing you to reboot the Mesozoic Valley in exchange for one Warm Climate Trait card at level one, which provides a 50 % bonus to payout from all dinosaurs. Epic and rare traits are saved, and so is Mutagen, but common Trait cards are set to zero. Rank is incremented to prestige rank 1, which retains the multiplier for the main simulation (so the multiplier is now x6.1), and the reptile generators remain unlocked.

The maximum number of prestiges is 10. It is generally advisable to stockpile as much Mutagen as possible along the way, so that you can advance your dinosaurs as far as possible.

== Types of Dinosaurs ==
The following table shows some info about the Dinosaurs.
«Cost» indicates the amount of Fossils needed to buy the first copy of each dinosaur.
The cost increases by 15 % (compounding) each time a new copy is bought. The cost can be decreased by obtaining rare or epic Traits.

«Gain» is the cost of Fossils per dinosaur that are obtained each time the dinosaur cycle finishes. This amount increases when the corresponding payout Traits are activated.

«Duration» is the initial time for one cycle to be completed. It can be decreased by activating Traits. By activating the first duration decreasing Trait, the dinosaur cycle is automated. Once the cycle becomes extremely short, it is replaced with a simple fossil rate per second. Each asteroid/reset, the cycle time will double.

«Unlock» is the rank needed to be able to buy the first copy of the dinosaur.

«Trait» is the ranks that are needed to unlock the single dinosaur Traits; automation/speed followed by payout.

== Trivia ==
* Pterosaurs, Plesiosaurs, Mosasaurus, and Ichthyosaurus are not dinosaurs, which is why they are offshoots of the Archosaur node separate from the mainstream dinosaurs. These creatures belong to sister clades of dinosaurs.
* Despite their origins in different clades, the Mosasaurs, Plesiosaurs and Ichthyosaurs are all grouped together as the only aquatic prehistoric creatures on the tree. This is in spite of the fact they are distinctly not Archosaurs but different lineages of reptile, Mosasaurs being Squamates, Plesiosaurs being turtle relatives and Ichthyosaurs belonging to an unknown lineage of Diapsid.
* The Cynodont is also not a type of dinosaur, but a proto-mammal. Dinosaurs and other Archosaurs (such as the above-listed creatures) are Diapsids whilst Cynodonts are Therapsids. These non-dinosaur creatures are included in the Mesozoic Valley to show the diversity of species during the era, as an example of the other organisms alive at the time.
* The Mesozoic portal in the Main Simulation is in the ocean habitat, but if the Lungs [[Upgrades|upgrade]] is bought it turns into the habitat that looks similar to the habitat behind the Archosauria trophy.
